white paper and proposal questions

The goal and purpose of the white paper assignment is to describe how a technology tool will be beneficial to students. The audience for the white paper are the T.S.T.C. students who will be using this interface. Before I can write my white paper I must first write my proposal to my boss and get approval. I must also research my technology tool before writing my proposal to ensure that I have the correct information and knowledge about the subject. The goal of the proposal is to persuade my audience that the project is worthwhile and that I am qualified to complete it. It is also important to convey to the audience that there are people (students)who need this information to help them along the way. The audience for the proposal is my boss/editor so I have to be thorough and persuasive. Before I can write the proposal I have to investigate and heavily research my topic for several reasons. I have to be able to answer any questions that may be asked about the tool as well as know how the tool/site operates.

audience analysis

My intended audience for this assignment is directed at two different subjects. The first of the two is Ms Santoy. I am mainly targeting her because I need approval for the proposal that I will be submitting. The second, will be the students who will benefit from the tech tool that I have chose to observe and investigate. Ms. Santoy is a professor who teaches writing skills at Texas State Technical College (T.S.T.C.). Not only would she, as a teacher benefit, from the possible success that this tool could provide; but the students and the College would accompany as well. Ms. Santoy is currently up to date in regards to using several tools, web sites, and programs to help others achieve their goals with ease. However, there isn't anyone in the world who knows everything. And catching up with new technology is a full time job. The tool that I have chosen exists only because time management is essential in education and the workplace. Also, everyone who goes to school, has a job, or is just really swamped with things to do can relate and benefit from using this tool. As far as limitations to this writing project, I don't foresee anything in particular that will play a role in slowing things down.

Following Frenzy

I am following the Writer/Producer of the television show "My Name Is Earl." His twitter user name is michaelpennie, which happens to be his real name. His show is funny but that's not the point. For a long time I have dreamed of producing, writing, and filming my own independent films. He is living my dream. I have been scripting for several years assembling a team and equipment that I can have at my disposal. I plan to join the 36 hour film festival this year and travel to some of the Austin studios in search of work. I figure if I keep a close eye on people like him I can be successful.

I just read Michael Pennie's blogspot page. He is basically just self promoting for his show and trying to keep everyone notified about the latest news with his show. The intended audience for this blog is the fans of the show and some of the other writers that he works with. He has provided the reader with bio's and career filmography's of the actors. He also included short clips of the show here and there to keep the attention of the viewer.

Very Good Blog

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

I used http://www.blogcatalog.com/ to search for a blog that sparked my interest. I stumbled upon http://www.nbaclips.blogspot.com/. Being a huge sports fan I was eager to test and see how the blog functioned. This blog is cool for a lot of reasons. The color scheme is good. The setup is good. The statistics and updated information is easy to follow and the navigation in the site is very self explanatory. They have every Pro Team represented including: individual stats, team records, and highlights all divided by year/team schedule. For a blog it doesn't get much easier than that. Unless your ESPN!

assignment #2

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

I chose to analyze the blog site http://www.wonkette.com/. The blog is directed to the general public but aimed primarily at those involved in politics and world affairs. The central focus of the blog is to poke fun at the government. Whether it's the Bush administration that's on their way out, or President Barack Obama's descisions in the White House. The basic theme and design layout is focused on humor. They posted up videos where Obama is in a turban and dressed like a woman. Other videos showed George Bush Sr with a paragraph about Bill Clinton and others even had clever, sarcastic thoughts on present day issues. I wouldn't say that this blog isn't useful, or that it is. I think that the approach of using humor instead of hate rants, made the information much easier to accept to the common viewer. It was very interesting to see what they would say next. Freedom of speech used in this type of context is very entertaining. Although the design complimented the theme almost perfectly, I would have liked to have seen more page development on the right side of the blog. Also some more creative information about President Obama would have sufficed. I think the author/authors have done a good job in molding their digital identity by focusing their ideas on current events that people of all ages can relate to. The similarities were small but obvious. They all tried to appeal to everyone as fun and exciting. But they had to otherwise no one would read them. The differences in their approach were in the presentation aspect of it all. Some blogs looked conservative while others chose to color outside the lines.

Introduction Essay

Armando Barrera

01/20/2009

Hello. My name is Armando Barrera. I am twenty four years old and I am the youngest in my family. I was born in Harlingen, Texas in 1984, and ever since I can remember I’ve been interested in design and fine arts. For the last couple of years I’ve been attending T.S.T.C. in pursuit of a degree in which to apply my skills. I’m currently enrolled in the Digital Media Design Technology program, which is considered as an applied science. My educational plans for the next several years are to graduate with my bachelors’ degree and immediately put it use. I plan on moving to Austin or San Antonio, where money and career opportunity are more available. I would like to work for a company as a Graphic Artist/Web Designer in the advertising and marketing industry. Communication will be one of the most important factors when it comes to this profession. Not only will I be required to orally pitch ideas to co-workers and different cliental, but I will have to maintain strong written communications skills in the form of memos and mission statements. Presently, I am working for Enterprise Rent-a-Car at the Valley International Airport as a vehicle service attendant. My job requires very little written communication skills as compared to oral instructions; but interacting is essential. Taking this course will hopefully sharpen my writing skills, as well as challenge me to be more efficient in communicating with others. In my spare time I like to play basketball, shoot pool, go to the beach with friends, play the drums, gamble, and watch sports. I am honest, outgoing, talkative, competitive, and ambitious. I don’t like people who are arrogant, racist, or judge others before they get to know them. I hope this was enough information for everyone to get to know me a little.
